East Cheshire Ramblers has a committed number of active Walk Leaders. To show our appreciation for all you do to provide walks for the walk programme we would like to invite you to an evening event to say, ‘thank you’!
On Friday the 13th of November we have invited James Ellson to share his entertaining presentation about his attempts to climb the Matterhorn. His talk will be followed by a light supper, and the bar will be open!
Five Hours Up, Five Hours Down: Soloing the Matterhorn
The story of James Ellson's repeated attempts to climb it, his ascent and the terrible postscript. His presentation will cover:
- The mountaineering history of the Matterhorn
- Brief details of James's 2 earlier attempts
- A detailed description of his 3rd attempt
- Events following 3rd ascent
James Ellson was a police officer for fifteen years, starting in London and finishing as a Detective Inspector at Moss Side in Manchester. He now wears three hats of writer, smallholder, and speaker.
His debut novel The Trail was published in 2020 and was longlisted for the Boardman Tasker award. There are now five books in the DCI Castle series.
He is a keen mountaineer, and has climbed 6,812 metre Ama Dablam in Nepal, and soloed the Matterhorn.
Born in Surrey, James now lives on a smallholding in the Peak District, which includes bees and an orchard.
We do hope you will be able to join us. Please RSVP by Friday 5th November to socsecretary@ramblerseastcheshire.org.uk
